Mapping Historical Racial Violence
Dynamic Visualization Project
Our interdisciplinary team created a dynamic visualization and map of over 300 incidents to help identify communities and regions impacted by racial violence and drive community centered interventions that promote restorative justice. This research is the work of the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project (CRRJ) at Northeastern University School of Law, in collaboration with Dean Melissa Nobles of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The interactive map is the result of a collaboration among CRRJ, the NuLawLab, the NULab for Texts, Maps and Networks, and Steven Geofrey, and was funded by a 2019 Northeastern University Tier 1 Grant. The map is currently used in trainings being conducted by CRRJ in Massachusetts and the U.S. South.
